Women Economic Empowerment I: Women, Money & Census
February 20, 2020 @ 11:30 am - 1:00 pm
Quarter 1 2020: Women Economic Empowerment Series Program.
Theme/topic: Women, Money & Census
Overview: The 2020 Census is right around the corner! In a few months, every household will receive an invitation to participate. Census participation doesn’t just shape political power, but population counts also decide if families and children can count on equal access to federally funded programs that support nutrition, education, housing and healthcare. We all have something to lose when our community has a low Census response. Since 2010, Ohio leveraged $21 billion in federal funding because of the last Census results. And for every person not counted in the Census, it will cost our state $1,814 per year, per person for 10 years. The question is, how can you contribute to this effort?
And since the Census Bureau derives gender-specific data from several surveys and the decennial census and produces many reports that contain data on women. How are these impacted women in community, marketplace and workplace?
Speakers:
Rose Simmons, U.S. Census Bureau Partnership Coordinator
Deborah Barnett, Toledo-Lucas County Complete Count Committee Coordinator
Carrie Hartman, City of Toledo Census Liaison (Moderator)

About Women of Toledo WEE program: The United States recognizes the critical role of women’s economic empowerment in achieving prosperity and peace, as the 2017 National Security Strategy makes clear:
“Societies that empower women to participate fully in civic and economic life are more prosperous and peaceful.”
Women make up half the human population — and can act as key drivers of global growth and national security. At Women of Toledo, we believe that investing in gender equality and women’s empowerment can help eradicate extreme poverty, build vibrant economies, and unlock human potential on a transformational scale. We aim to support these efforts, in addition to advocating for diversity and inclusivity in all areas of marketplace, workplace and community space in the Toledo region.
