Tell us about yourself! What makes you, “you”?
I’m a 61 year old mother of 4, Grandma to 8 (soon to be 9) and MasterMommy to 2 furbaby pups and they all come first in my life. I worked for local government for over 25 yrs before retiring. I have always had a creative side and after retiring I found time to delve into it. Kind, curious, laidback realist is how I’d best describe myself.

Describe your business/services and then tell us about what brought you to creating this business and why you’re passionate about it.
Kendi Scents Candle Co was born when, during the pandemic, I tried my hand at making scented candles and loved it. I love making something that others really liked when gifted with it, so I thought, why not try making money with them? While beginning that adventure, I found a blog that talked about “liquid wax melt”, and that’s when I discovered that soy wax could be formulated to be squeeze-able AND it would also be eco-friendly because it called for natural ingredients. No paraffin wax could create this! That sold me more than anything, and I wondered why more people didn’t know about this?! I got to work finding the right combination for making the best consistency for my product. After a lot of trial and error, I found it! Thus, Squeeze Melts were born! The pride I take in making something that doesn’t add to the problems of climate change is huge and I want the world to know that we can all live better in the smallest ways, especially in our private spaces. I offer a better choice, easy to use, easy to clean, easy to breathe, Kendi Scents Squeeze Melt. No harmful chemicals to worry about. The fragrance last longer and stronger. No more chiseling wax from your warmer, with Squeeze Melts, clean-up is just a quick wipe with a paper towel. There’s just so much to love about it!

What goals do you have for your business in the future?
To grow and grow and grow! My goal is to create a legacy for my grandchildren. I want them to see through me that no matter where you are in life its not ever to late to follow your dreams, whatever they are. If their 60-something grandma can do it, anyone can.
………….
What is your proudest achievement?
Getting my product in a store. It’s not Walmart, but its still big to me!
………….
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced as a business owner and how did you overcome it?
Figuring out social media advertising. Not sure that I’ve overcome it, but I have learned a lot about the do’s and don’ts, and algorithms enough that I know to stay consistent and, no matter what it looks like, never to give up.
………….
What advice would you give to a woman looking to start a business or get into a leadership role? Is there one thing that has helped you specifically?
Reach out early on for help and advice, it will save you on making avoidable mistakes. Never give up…rearrange all you like, take a rest here and there, but never give up. Be your authentic self because your business will reflect who you are and people will appreciate it.

What made you want to join HerHub?
I met a past member at a lunch who suggested that I look into it. She said that HerHub helped her in many ways and she was sure I would gain from the experience.
………….
Why do you feel it’s important to collaborate and empower other women?
If we can’t relate to each other, then who can we related to? I’ve always felt uplifting the people I relate most to helps me be a better person overall, as well as help the rest of the world be a better place. I can understand the challenges of being a woman in the world so it seems only natural for me to be supportive. Support from anyone is basically the spine of humanity. We all need it.
………….
If you could recommend one resource (book, podcast, quote, class, website, etc.), that has helped you in life or in business, what would it be and why?
In Life: I’d recommend meditation (self-awareness) of any kind. Introspection grounds me and helps me to find clarity.
