Jade Yu is the owner of Shokudo Kitchen, a local, family-owned Asian restaurant in Perrysburg Ohio. Shokudo Kitchen hand cuts their veggies daily and ALL of their recipes are homemade. Jade’s passion is in providing fresh and savory food with special accommodations for vegan and gluten free communities.
We interviewed Jade about Shokudo Kitchen and what her experiences have been like being a female business owner and this is what she had to say:
When asked, what goals do you have for your business in the future?
She responded, as this is our first location, we would like to see our concept multiply and grow into many.
What is your proudest achievement?
Covid has closed many restaurants, we are proud and very grateful to our community to still be around.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced as a business owner and how did you overcome it?
Hiring staff. Although this is a constant challenge we have really invested in loyal employees with constant verbal appreciation and fair pay.
What advice would you give to a woman looking to start a business or get into a leadership role? Is there one thing that has helped you specifically?
“Have the end in mind, but be flexible in your approach.” look into networks, groups, books, and subscriptions that support your new category. A sense of community is needed when everyone around you might think you’re nuts trying something so bold.

Why do you feel it’s important to collaborate and empower other women?
I would not have made it this far without the help of others. I hope some day someone can say that same line and be thinking of me.
